Pack Ranks
[/u]This is a breakdown and list of pack ranks.
If your wolf is not assigned a rank, you can post here to have that happen. All you have to do is post a link to their profile and their desired rank.
Should you wish to roleplay it, or if you are unsure, go and make a thread at The Densite and the alpha will get to you shortly. Make sure to title your thread as “Rank assigning [your character’s name].”
Your character may also be assigned a rank upon joining, so it might already be here.
The Alpha
The alpha is the leader of the pack. Caisteal prizes justice and steady heads, and so the alpha of this pack must be equal parts stern and compassionate. They oversee all, and all decisions for the pack must go through them before being allowed to happen. The alpha may be male or female, or the alpha pair, rather than a single wolf.
Commodore
The alpha’s right hand wolf or pair of them. Second in command, it is their duty to make sure the alpha’s words are enforced. In the case where the alpha leaves or dies, the commodores are expected to take control and reorder the pack, until the heir or heir apparent is able or wanting to take control. The Commodores may greet wolves wishing to join, and accept them into the pack.
Heir or Heir Apparent
The alpha’s oldest or most capable child will either be named heir or assumed as the heir. Other wolves may also be named heir, to take over the pack once the alpha has died. If no heirs are named or assumed, this position is passed onto the commodores.
Brigadier
The brigadier is the leader of the hunter group. It is their job to organise and direct the hunters, and teach the cadets how to hunt. They are responsible for the hunters under their charge, and take orders directly from the alpha, rather than the commodores. Keeping things running efficiently amongst their charges is the brigadier’s top priority. The brigadier may appoint a captain to assist in their duties.
Hunters
Pretty self-explanatory – the hunters are responsible for hunting for the pack, and patrolling. They need to be good at following orders and being at the right place at the right time. Their brigadier is their first call of command, but they are expected to follow the commodores or the alpha as well.
Nurses
Wolves of this rank are expected to care for the sick, injured or old. They must attend to pups and their mothers, as well, making sure both are healthy and comfortable. They answer only to the alpha, and are expected to take initiative. A matron (who may be male or female) may lead the nurses, but it is not a rank in and of itself.
Cadets
[/u]All wolves between three months and a year old, or otherwise untrained members, are referred to as cadets. They may take to nursing or hunting, but must take orders from all outranking wolves. They are all expected to be well-behaved, and a delinquent cadet will face severe punishment. All cadets must participate in patrolling the territory.
The Sheltered
[/u]The very old, the very young, the orphaned, the injured and the otherwise infirm are taken care of by the pack. Elderly wolves are expected to help the pack make decisions, and any wolf that is able must help care for the young and train nursing cadets. It is not unheard of for the pack to take in temporaries who are injured or sick, and all of the sheltered are treated with dignity and respect.
The Unranked
[/u]The bottom rung and the end of the line, a wolf among the unranked must have done something seriously wrong to be totally stripped of rank. Nonetheless treated with respect (and perhaps thinly-veiled contempt), the unranked are on thin ice, and should tread carefully.
