The loner lands were beginning to take their toll on the lively creature, while she had willingly left home and taken off on her own, the lack of company was starting to wear on her. She had always been a wolf who was always at the center of attention, sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way, and whether it be teasing, joking, laughing, or just simply talking with friends, Shatter missed the companionship.
She had done her research on both packs native to her homeland, and while she liked the thoughts and ideals of Exercitus, her personality was far to spontaneous and joyful to be serious and uptight all the time. A military pack simply wouldn't suit her... which left her with Caisteal. While she didn't fit the traditional mold perfectly, she supposed she was young enough and well off enough to be trained and taught the new ways.
She sniffed out the border, her head cocked to the side in a moment's hesitation, before she cocked her head back and howled long and hard, summoning whoever ruled these lands to come and greet her.

A howl woke the old alpha from his nap in the sun. It was embarrassing, the amount he slept nowadays – but he was just thankful for the warm heat of the sun after that terrible winter. Sleepily he stretched. Another one? Well, things were looking better by the day. Getting to his feet, the wolf stretched and started off towards the border.
A young female wolf was the source of the call. She was on the small side, from what he could see, about the same size as Elsa. The grey alpha slowed to a trot as he approached, stopping just a few feet away.
“Guid day, missus.” He greeted, his voice light and jolly. “How can I help ye?”
The old wolf had a soft spot for females. Well, that was an understatement. The Big Yan was all soft spot for females. Having been a doting son, husband and father, he couldn’t help but think of them whenever he saw a lady in need. For that reason, he was more or less incapable of turning one away from his lands.

Shatter waited with a reserved amount of patience. She normally wasn't a patient creature, she always needed to be doing something, hunting, stalking another loner, watching packs from a far, her mind was always churning, always racing, an analytical thinker to the end. Waiting was one of the hardest things for her, mentally. Staying still was not an easy task.
The wolf approached her, he was larger than her by several inches... not that that was a shocker, she was fairly small, ranging on the side of pixie-like. She didn't mind, she had learned to work with her body rather than against it. She focused her training on endurance, speed, stamina. She would never be a powerhouse of strength and she knew it.
"I have come hoping to seek entry into your pack Sir. I am a capable hunter as well as a warrior, although there is always room for improvement." She had never been one to speak highly of herself. Bragging is disrespectful and you shouldn't do it to get a bigger slab of meat than your brother. The detached voice of her mother rang through her skull and it took all she had not to roll her eyes. It was amazing what memories stuck with her.

The young wolf argued her case well. Big Yan offered her a wag of his tail, stepping back and to the side in a gesture of allowance.
“What is yer name, me lass? I am th’ alpha, an’ I am caw th’ Big Yan.” He was happy to be speaking to her. Their numbers were desperately low.
“Ye are welcome here, sae lang as ye follow th’ rules. We havena many, bu’ ye are expected tae behave well an’ respect th’ others. There aren’t many o’ those, either. Ye are a hunter, ye say? We daena allow fer fightin’, wi’ each other or outsiders, bu’ if ye tak orders well, ye will dae well as a hunter. I wi’ tak ye tae the brigadier. A new lad, but a guid ane.”
“Where are ye frae, lass?” He continued on as he slowly started to make it back to the dens. “Are ye used tae the weather an’ game here in the heilands?” It could be tough for a wolf to adapt if they were from an easier sort of climate. With the weather warming up, game was more plentiful, but harder to catch.

Shatter blinked. A stunned expression washing over her maw as she starred at the wolf before her. Her mind came to a screeching halt and she stood slightly dumbstruck. She was...accepted? Just like that? There had to be a catch, some hidden motivation! There was no way anyone would just accept her after a few short sentences! I mean he knew virtually nothing about her. No background, no personality, he didn't even know if her words struck true!
Dumbfounded, she numbly rose to her pads and trailed after him. Her brain desperately trying to catch up with the rest of her, as it tried to reason out what had made him accept her so...quickly. She felt at a loss for a better term...he was speaking to her. She forced herself to focus.
"My name is Shatter. It is a pleasure to meet you. I can't say I've ever been apart of a pack before but I have watched many from afar and I understand how the basics work. Respect is a given and loyalty follows shortly thereafter. I will do my best to do your pack proud." Her response came swiftly, answering with a hint of respect coloring her tone.
"I come from a quite family. My mother and father were good wolves. They taught my siblings and I with a well mannered hand, but I was never happy, I wanted to see... to explore the world on my own, and so here I am." Her tone was excited, but still reserved.

“Well, Miss Shatter,” Big Yan said, his voice low. His leg was giving him trouble, and he resorted to walking on three instead of four. “Yer family was yer pack, me lass. Until noo’, I hae only been wi’ me family. Daena undersell ‘em, miss.”
“At th’ moment, we ha’ meself, me dochter Elsa, th’ Brigadier, Aeron – watch oot fer him, lass, he’s a guid lad bu’ a little bit o’ a slimy ane, if ye ask me – an’ an auld missus. In Caisteal, ye treat yer elders like yer alpha, but ye act proud an’ respectful to aw’. Ye will pull yer weight equal tae yer capabilities, and in return, we wi’ tak care o’ ye, shelter ye an’ yer bairns, should ye ha’ them, an’ protect ye frae harm an’ sickness.” The den site on the side of the hill was coming into view. “We daena tolerate laziness, Miss Shatter, it endangers th’ whole pack.”
The den site seemed…abandoned. Big Yan gave a loud huff before issuing the rallying cry – the long, drawn out howl, with the typically melodious sound of the Eurasian wolf. Elsa came scarpering out of the underbrush like a frightened rabbit, skidding to a stop in front of her father. There were leaves and burrs in her messy coat, and she gave a sheepish grin to the newcomer before slinking to her father’s side to hide behind him.

Shatter's ears gently rotated on the top of her skull, swiveling this way and that as he spoke. The accent was difficult for her to make out all the time and it took a small amount of concentration to pick up his speech. She paced quietly forward, following along beside him.
A small smile quirked the side of her maw as he continued speaking, she was lucky that he was a talker, while she wasn't a wallflower, she hadn't been around wolves in a great deal of time and it was going to take her awhile to get back into the swing of things again... plus she did enjoy her solitude. She nodded appropriately during the times when she needed to, to show that she was listening, and when they reached the dens, she blinked. They were... dismal to say the least, scarcely a soul around. It was depressing if she were being honest with herself.
"I enjoy meeting new wolves, hunting, and my parents even taught me a bit about gathering herbs for medicinal purposes if you would like me to do as such, pulling my own weight will not be a problem. You need only give a command." She did not speak in an egotistic fashion, merely showing that she would be willing to obey an order should he choose to give one. She blinked as the scrawny creature bounced from the bush much like a jack rabbit but never the less, she smiled.
"Good day to you miss." Her tone was gentle and well natured as she greeted the skittish thing.

Shatter's audits gently pivoted on the top of her skull [ooc: How can one pivot their audits? I wasn't aware wolves had a taxation system through which to acquire an audit (let alone multiple ones), nor the ability to pivot them due to a complete lack of thumbs.]

“Ye must excuse Elsa.” Big Yan said as his daughter peered at Shatter by looking under her father. “She daesna speak, but she can hear jus’ fine. She wi’ gae an’ clean out a den fer ye.” Solidly, he shoved his daughter with his hindquarters. Getting the hint, the scrawny wolf slunk off.
“Noo’.” He turned to face Shatter, sitting down. “Th’ question isnae wha’ ye can dae. It is wha’ ye want tae dae. Aeron, our brigadier, is a guid hunter, an’ he and Elsa gae jus’ fine. If ye can take orders and if ye like tae hunt, ye gae with him. If ye wish tae be a nurse, then a nurse ye may be. We ha’ an auld lass tha’ may need a nurse soon. Whatever ye think ye will dae best, ye may dae. We daena want an unhappy wouf wha’ isnae pullin’ her ain weight because she is unhappy.”
Looking up at the rocks he spent his days on, he spoke again.
“Nae need tae answer noo’. Rest, miss, ye need it.” The alpha slowly climbed up his rocks, his body aching as he laid down. It was clear that was Shatter’s dismissal from him.
[and that wraps this up. You can reply if you like, though.]
